Yahoo.com Is The Page Of Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow
Yahoo.com is an American corporation with their headquarters in California. They are a site that provides services through the Internet throughout the world. They are best known for their search engines, mail, news, mapping, video sharing and social media sites. This company was founded in January of 1994 by David Filo and Jerry Yang. It officially became incorporated on March 1, 1995. During the year 2008, Yahoo as we know it was close to changing with the Microsoft corporation almost purchased this incorporation for 47.5 billion dollars. However, at the very last minute, they pulled out. During the beginning of the year 2011, it was reported that this corporation is worth half the amount they were offered. In the paragraphs below, we are going to give you a brief history of this popular site that has millions of users.
David Filo and Jerry Yang were graduate students at Stanford University when they made a domain named “David and Jerry’s Guide to the WWW”. This page was a directory of other sites that were online. During the year 1994, they renamed their site to “Yahoo!”. The Yahoo.com domain officially came to life on January 18 of o1995.
Throughout the 90′s, as the Internet was becoming more and more popular, the site rapidly grew. Like many other web directories and search engines on the net, this one grew into a Web portal.
During the year 2000, they started to use the ever so popular Google for search results. Over the years, up to 2004, they developed their own search engine technologies. The search engine technologies officially opened to the public in 2004. To compete with Gmail (Google’s mail service), during the year 2007, Yahoo revamped their own mail service. During the year 2008, with a couple of major layoffs, the company struggled.
In February of 2008, Microsoft, yet again, made a big to get this corporation for 44.6 billion dollars. They formally rejected the bid, claiming that it undervalues the corporation and it was not in the interest of the shareholders. During January of 2009, Carol Bartz stepped in and replaced Jerry Yang, who was the co-founder.
This navigational guide to the Internet has gained in popularity throughout the years. There has also been many bumps in the road, but nothing seems to stop them from growing even bigger. You will find many updates to their mail system, which really helps their users out.
Their site is not just about the mail service, there are many other services they offer. One of the most popular would be their messenger – with the messenger, you can connect with family, friends and relatives with only a click of the button.
Their messenger even gives the option to chat through cam or share videos and pictures. Apart from the mail service and messenger, they also have a search engine, news, communities, weather, horoscopes, games and you cannot forget about OMG!
Without all the users, Yahoo.com would not be what it is today. This is a company that started from scratch and grew up into a big network. When they first started out, they probably did not expect to become so big.
